Anthotype Print: “Little Blue in Pink”

$60.00

This work is part of the exhibition I found it in the forest, showing at the White Box window gallery in Ōtepoti/Dunedin from 6th March to 17th April. For this collection, I have taken ordinary and otherwise unnoticed objects from our local MTB park and infused them with the magic I see every day in the world around me. [scroll down for more…]

Description

A close-up photograph of a Southern Blue butterfly (Zizina oxleyi). These are tiny butterflies, about the size of a 20c coin when it’s wings are closed, and this particular species is only found in the eastern part of the South Island. This one was photographed feeding on wild clover flowers at Elephant Rocks, part of the UNESCO Waitaki Whitestone Geopark.

This is a print based on a photograph made using the anthotype process. Anthotypes are created using plant dyes (in this case foraged blueberries), with a ‘positive’ image placed on top and exposed to the sun.
