Anthotype Print: “Stinging Nettle in Pink”

$60.00

This work is part of the exhibition I found it in the forest, showing at the White Box window gallery in Ōtepoti/Dunedin from 6th March to 17th April. For this collection, I have taken ordinary and otherwise unnoticed objects from our local MTB park and infused them with the magic I see every day in the world around me. [scroll down for more…]

Description

A simple anthotype of a stinging nettle, pruned from a plant I have growing on my studio windowsill. Stinging nettle is an important plant for our admiral butterflies, as it is where eggs are laid and the only plant the caterpillars eat.

This is a print based on a photograph made using the anthotype process. Anthotypes are created using plant dyes (in this case three layers of dye from foraged blackberries), with a ‘positive’ image placed on top and exposed to the sun.
