[ON NOW] Group exhibition: Photo

Photo is an open call exhibition by recently established Port Chalmers gallery, Bertha Art Space.

I will have three works in this group show, from different threads of my photography practice: still life, cyanotype, and landscape photography.

“Instrument of the gods”

In te reo Māori, some of its names are “whare atua” and “pū a Raukatauri”. Hine Raukatauri is the atua of flute music, and the story is that she loved her flute so much that she chose to live inside it. It’s this story I reference here, bringing a musical feel to the image through waves of light.

“Seeing Doubles”

Cyanotype print using digital negatives from photos taken at a nearby hoiho reserve, Tavora. It is owned & managed by the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust (YEPT) and through their restoration and trapping work, I hope that one day the wildlife will multiply and become abundant.

“Let there be light”

“Let there be light” is a photograph of the moon and sun at sunrise, during the solar eclipse of September 2025.

I knew the eclipse was to occur just after sunrise, so I walked down the road to an east-facing view. At first it just looked like a normal sunrise, but as I photographed it I could see the eclipse begin. Here, the sun’s rays peek out behind the moon’s shadow in magical rays, capturing a beautiful moment during this spectacular phenomenon.
