“Seeing Doubles” is a unique collage print created from a photograph using the cyanotype process. The pīwakawaka pictured and duplicated was originally photographed at Tavora Reserve, a conservation area owned and managed by the Yellow-eyed Penguin Trust. As well as creating a safe habitat for hoiho/yellow-eyed penguins, the trust want to create a space for our other native biodiversity to thrive – like this pīwakawaka.
As well as a visual allusion to partners dancing, bringing to mind the friendly nature and fanciful flight of these birds, this piece also symbolises my hope for a future where our precious birds multiply and thrive alongside humans.
This edition was exhibited at Bertha Art Space (2026), Art Attic (2026), and Waikouaiti Coast Heritage Centre (2025).
